“Barfi” and Bollywood
It is easy to have become jaded by the Bollywood industry. Churning out over 200 movies a year, the Indian cinema motto can be mistaken for “quantity over quality”. Major flops, masala hits, and international phenomena’s have all been products of this industry but a quality film with a unique plot and great acting is an actual rarity. The recent generation of actors consists mainly of models rather than actors, hoping for a role that will make them gorgeous magazine headliners rather than credible actors.
So, when a former beauty queen like Priyanka Chopra is given the opportunity to strip all the glamour away and play the part of an autistic girl across Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of a deaf and mute man, the Bollywood industry may just have hope yet.
The trailer for director Anurag Basu’s film “Barfi” has just been released and looks incredible. Releasing September 14th, we really hope the powerful statement the trailer has left isn’t diluted by Bollywood marketing gimmicks of item songs and trashy dance numbers.
Check out the trailer below!
